Our Philosophy of Care

Our philosophy is simple: to care for each resident as an individual. We understand that everyone has unique needs, preferences, and routines, and we adapt our care to suit them. Whether residents stay with us long term or for short-term respite care, our goal is to help them live life with dignity, independence, and comfort.

We encourage freedom of choice in daily living. Residents can decide when to wake up, when to go to bed, and how they wish to spend their day. We see our role as supporting, not restricting, so that life at Sheerwater House feels as close as possible to life at home.

Why Families Choose Sheerwater House

A Homely Atmosphere

We are not a large, impersonal institution. Sheerwater House is small enough to feel like a true home. Residents are encouraged to bring personal possessions, photos, and small items of furniture to make their rooms familiar and comforting. The communal spaces, from the cosy lounge to our bright dining room and well-kept garden, are warm and inviting places where residents and visitors can relax together.

Long-Term Staff Retention

We are proud that many of our staff have been with us for years. This consistency is a great comfort to residents and families, as familiar faces provide reassurance and continuity of care. Our staff are chosen not only for their experience but also for their kindness, patience, and dedication.

    - Cousin of Resident

  • "My elderly Mother was a resident for 5 years in this small , very personal ,residential Care Home. It was local to us. She was very happy and settled in the home. Staff were so compassionate, obliging, considerate, caring , patient and exemplary at all times. Owner of care home was easily contactable, as was House Manager, and Mother's main daily Carer. Brilliant interaction between Carers and residents. Visiting was flexible, carers were always accessible to speak to, and I was kept informed of every detail and Mother's health at all times. They were extremely hard working and had genuine vocation with their responsibilities. One particular carer had a wonderful rapport with Mother , who always responded so well to her. Kitchen Staff produced excellent healthy, tasty meals, with plenty variety. Regular visits from local GP surgery also. I am truly grateful to them all, including the Care Home Owner.

Thank you all at Sheerwater House for the happy five years Mother spent with you."

    - Daughter of Resident

  • "Very kind, caring staff. They treat my dad with the utmost respect. He settled in very quickly , completely unnecessary for me to have any concerns. All in all, I'm very happy with the care he receives. His welfare is a priority."
